The Ocala…Fort King

In 2022, I published Haunted Ocala National Forest through Arcadia/History Press.

I first heard the story of the Fort King Spring during a conference 200 miles away from it. A group of reenactors introduced themselves to me at a conference in Fort Myers, and told me about a ghost who they had seen at an old fort in the town of Ocala. At that point, I knew the forest existed and things were beginning to roll around in my mind about it, but I did not know there was actually a town named Ocala.

It would be a few years before I made my way there, despite a flat tire on the highway trying to get there, but once I did, interviews with rangers there hinted there was something else going on. Whatever darkness was left at Fort King was being held responsible for other phantoms and curses reported in the neighborhood.
